My personal feedback on the rough cut
After watching our rough cut opening of the thriller I have come to realise that I need to make ammense improvements by changing several different things. However there were also a number of things that were done very well and I was pleased with.
Improvements to make for final thriller
After watching the rough cut opening of our thriller, several times it has helped me to understand that the quality and the standard of the opening wasn't very good. This is because firstly we did not include any background sound to the opening which made me lose interest in the opening. This could be improved in my final thriller as we can include foley sound effects which would help not only me but the target audience to stay focused and engaged whilst watching the opening. This may persuade them to carry on watching the opening. In additon the 'bullying' scenes came across as a blur and were also very jumpy. This is a huge problem as the audience may not understand exactly what is going on and therefore make them lose intrest. This can be improved in my final thriller as I can use Final Cut Pro to trim and cut some scenes in order for the scences to flow well and therefore helping the audience stay engaged whilst watching it and also help them understand exactly what is going on. Another improvement to make is to add titles and credits as this is a significant part in the opening.
Thumbs up
However there was also many things I was quite happy with. One thing I was happy with was the way the very beginning of the opening started with a scene in the science laboratory. This may interest the audience as it seems like a very interesting topic to begin with. Another thing which I was pleased about was how the dripping tap was focussed right at the beginning whilst a character was playing about with the science equipment. This looks good and may help keep the audience engaged.

My personal feedback on the rough cut
The Rough Cut - Personal Feedback

CONS :( |
I found that the scenes were too jumpy and didn't link nicely together. So I hope that we can improve this in our final opening by making them link together clearly.
I also found it slightly boring because of the fact that there was no background music, which we will definitely add in so that it comes across more as a thriller because it didn't seem to in our rough cut.

PROS :) |
However I'm very happy with the very beginning of our rough cut when I am putting the chemicals in a test tube because it is perfect for our title to appear on. I also like the water dripping from the tap because it looks suspensful.
I like how we reversed the little clip of when we put the pink "chemicals" in to the water, it looked very scientific and as if the chemical disappeared.
I think once we edit the footage properly with added effects, the film opening of Reaction should be quite interesting :)

Target Audience
Who is the target audience for your thriller?
Our thriller is about a young chemistry student who gets badly treated in college. This already gives us an insight on who this thriller is aimed at, which is young students or perhaps teenagers who do get bullied.

Foley Sounds
Foley Sounds
In proffessional films, Foley Art is done so well that the audience doesn't even realise that it is added in later on. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene. Although it seems like a lot of effort for small noises, without them, the film would be quiet and the sounds within the film wouldn't affect the audience as much.
Foley can also be used to cover up a noisy background on the set of a movie during filming, such as people talking or noisy traffic.

Different types of structure of a film opening
Different types of structure of a film opening
When making a film, the three different structures to a title sequence are very important. The three main structures to a title sequence is:
-The Discrete Title Sequence
-The main opening
-The credits and titles
The Discrete Title Sequence
Discrete title sequences are sequences which are separately edited and that stand well from the film opening. They are stylised and edited alot, and they support nearly all of the opening credits and film title. An example of a film opening that uses a Discrete Title Sequence is 'Arlington Road.'
The narrative opening
This is where the narrator opens the opening of a film. This is different to how the credits and titles and the discrete title sequence would open the film as a discrete title sequence is edited separately and the credits and titles appear on a black screen. An example of a film opening that uses a narrative opening is 'Panic Room.'
The credits and titles
The title sequence is where we see the title and the credits appear over the main opening of the film this is when the film begins. Majority of films use credits and titles through out the beginning of the film. One example is 'Snow White: A Tale of Terror.'

Props and costume for lab scene
To relate to the theme of sci fi, the props being used are:
- Beakers
- Test tubes
- Test Tube Racks
- Goggles
- Lab coat
- Mixer
- Little tubs for "chemicals"
- Pippet
As we will not be using real chemicals, we will actually be using:
- KA black grape fizzy drink
- Red food colouring
- Water
- Vitamin tablets
- Flour
We will also be mixing these up to make different colours :)
