The Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is a guideline which helps position images. The guideline should be imagined as divided into nine equal square boxes by 3 equal lines going horizontically and vertically. This is so that the picture is equally positioned and so that you can have whatever you want in the centre and on the sides.
When taking a close up, the person or thing being filmed should be positioned in the centre of the four points. When taking a mid shot, position the head on the top line, and the torso in the middle, etc...
