Foley Sounds

Foley Sounds

Foley is remaking sound in real life and adding it into videos to enhance it. For example, when filming someone walking up the stairs, the steps of the sounds may need to stand out for a build up in your film, however it may not pick up as clear so you then record the sounds later and add it on so that they are clearer.

In proffessional films, Foley Art is done so well that the audience doesn't even realise that it is added in later on. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene. Although it seems like a lot of effort for small noises, without them, the film would be quiet and the sounds within the film wouldn't affect the audience as much.

Foley can also be used to cover up a noisy background on the set of a movie during filming, such as people talking or noisy traffic.
