Genres
Define Genre:
A genre is a different type of category of a film such as horror, action or comedy.
What are cross genres:
When two genres get together to make one category, such as a Romantic Comedy or a Sci-Fi Horror.
Conventions of action movies:
- fighting
- car chase
- explosions
- weapons
- fast motion
- stunts
- heroes/villains
- certain actors linked to this genre such as Jason Statham or Brad Pitt
Why is genre important in PDE:
The producers and directors help to choose the right actors that suit the genre. They also choose what props are most appropriate and ingredients such as this.
Different people have different interests therefore they combine the genres to suit a variety of people.
Marketing and advertising helps know which element to have in the poster.
Analyse a film poster and explain how it promotes the genre:
The In Time poster represents action, sci-fi and romance. This is obvious because there is a couple which is the centre of attention, they are looking into each other's eyes which shows they are in love, linking to romance.
The gun in the girl's hand represents action because it represents deaths and murders.
The background setting and the numbers on the boys's hand is very futuristic, representing sci-fi through technology.
