Structure of Openings

The Structure of Thriller Openings

Narrative opening with the titles running throughout:

Panic Room begins with a setting in New York. This introduces the story and shows several city shots of the buildings and skyscrapers to give the audience a sense of the atmosphere and where the film will be based. The titles fit well on the screen and introduce the film well, they are written very clearly and quite bold so it makes it easier to read for the audience.

Discrete title sequence:

In this opening, there is a lot of frightening images that flash and change. The colours used are very dark and dim and there is dramatic music throughout. This gives the audience a creepy feel and  there are strange sound effects used such as screeching, whilst it shows a hand cutting with scissors, highlighting and covering peoples faces. This shows that the film involves murders and deaths and gives a chill up the audience's spine.

 Stylized editing:

The intro to Taking of Pelham 123 is a great example of stylized editing. There is a lot of fast motion in the city, showing the traffic and lifestyle in the city. It also starts with a landscape of the city, introducing the setting of the film. The music is hip hop which reaches out to the urban community, relating to city life.

Why is genre important in PDE?

PDE=Production, Distribution, Exhibition

The genre is important as helps the producers and directors know which stars to approach. This means they can get actors to fit the genre in which they suit. The genre also helps the producers and directors to choose which props to use. Another reason as to why the genre is important is because it helps the audience choose and the audience also have expectations of what they'll see. In addition, one final reason why genre is important is because it helps the marketing and advertising to know which element to have in the poster.

Analyse a film poster and explain how it promotes the genre
The 'In Time' picture represents sci-fi, action and romance. Romance is shown clearly as the couple who are in the centre of the picture, are looking into each other's eyes, and also the male character is holding the female characters hair which shows they are in love, linking this image to romance.

The gun in the female characters hand represents action as it represents deaths and murders, as a gun is a obvious prop used in a film to be used in a murder scene. The background setting and the numbers on the male characters hand is very futuristic, representing sci-fi through technology.

Remake of Juno: Storyboard

Shot By Shot Remake

Shot By Shot Remake

Today we are remaking a clip from Juno by acting the character's role and filming the different camera angles, shot by shot.

Fareena will be filming Naziara walking, imitating Juno. In the clip, there are several different camera angles such as a wide shot, mid shot and several different closeups.

Whilst we remake this clip, we will be using a bottle to imitate Juno's actions whilst she is walking.

We will be filming this in different parts of the college, for example, Fareena will be filming Naziara from the balcony at a high angle. This is when Juno is looking up towards the sky as she is walking.

At one point, Naziara will take over the camera and she will be filming her feet in the first person whilst she is walking.
